The ZnS ceramic powder was prepared as follow: 10 g of Na 2 S·9H 2 O was added to 50 ml of distilled water. The mixture was stirred for 1 h. In parallel, 10 g of ZnSO 4 ·7H 2 O was also dissolved into 50 ml of distilled water. Na 2 S·9H 2 O solution was then poured into ZnSO 4 ·7H 2 O solution.

Synthesis, structural and optical properties of ZnS
ZnS is a semiconductor nanomaterial of direct and wide-bandgap. It is usually observed in two phases, cubic and hexagonal. The hexagonal phase has a wurtzite structure while the cubic phase has a zinc blende structure. For the cubic and hexagonal phases of ZnS, the bandgap energy is 3.68 eV and 3.80 eV, respectively.

Zinc Sulfide
ZnS is a group of II–VI wide band gap semiconductor materials with a band gap, which range between 3.6-3.8 eV. The ZnS has two types crystal structures namely zinc blende and wurtzite. Among the two, zinc blende also referred to as β‐ZnS is stable at low temperature, whereas wurtzite, also referred to as α-ZnS is stable at temperature >1024°C.

The XRD spectrum of pristine ZnS thin films shows three broad peaks at 2θ = 28.74°, 48.20° and 57.12° indicating the formation of nanostructure. Similarly, for the Mn doped ZnS films broad peaks at 2θ = 28.90°, 48.22° and 57.18°; and at 2θ = 28.92°, 48.36° and 57.28° was observed for Mn doping ratio 1% and 10% respectively.
